The headquarters of the Ibiza Council was the setting for the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (Mueve) between the island government, the Airbnb platform, the Ibiza Tourist Accommodation Association (AVAT), the Hotel Business Federation of Ibiza and Formentera (FEHIF), and Tourism Development. This agreement is the result of a collaborative effort that Airbnb has described as "unprecedented."

This agreement, described as "historic" by the signatories, marks a "milestone" in the collaboration to combat unregulated tourist accommodation practices on the island of Ibiza and aims to enhance "the quality of the tourist offering and promote tourism that benefits residents and visitors alike," the Council stated in a statement.

Thus, this Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for collaboration with the main objective of combating the proliferation of tourist accommodations that operate outside the law. One highlight is Airbnb's explicit commitment to expedite the removal of listings that clearly violate local regulations (such as tents, campers, yurts, or boats).

This action is in line with the objectives of promoting responsible accommodation practices, where Airbnb also commits to expediting the removal of listings that, according to local authorities, violate regulations, and to working closely with the Consell (Consell) with proactive measures to address unregulated accommodation.

The President of Ibiza, Vicent Marí, highlighted the importance of this agreement, which represents "a milestone in the roadmap we set for ourselves more than five years ago to lead a relentless fight against unregulated accommodation on the island." He emphasized that significant progress is being made in this regard, not only by local councils but also by the island's business community and, now, by Airbnb, the main digital platform for tourist accommodation, "which I would like to thank for its willingness to join the objectives we have set in the Shock Plan to Combat Intrusion."

The initiative is part of Airbnb's "listing notification and deactivation protocol," which establishes a clear and effective procedure for quickly identifying and removing accommodation listings that violate local regulations.

"This joint commitment between the public sector, Airbnb, and representative organizations of the tourism industry underscores the shared interest in ensuring that Ibiza remains an exceptional, high-quality tourist destination for future generations," emphasizes Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, General Manager of Airbnb Marketing Services SL.
